Yes! You heard it right. Avoid maggi noodles as much as you can. I am going to tell you the “why” part. There is no doubt that maggi has been a true childhood buddy. Besides it can be prepared in no time, so easier for kids to make it on their own and satisfy their appetite. The inclination of kids towards maggi is evident from the slogan “Taste bhi! Health bhi!” in its ad!  From its processing to its manufacturing, each step adds to the reason of degrading our health. So let us check out some of the top reasons which claims that why we should avoid our so-called maggi noodles.

Maggi, is essentially made from refined flour or Maida. Yes, the very same Maida you try to avoid in the restaurant rotis and those biscuits. Maida is made by processing of the whole grain flour in which the husk, the bran and the germ which are also the most nutritious parts of the seed, are removed. Regular intake of maida can lead to obesity and other digestive problems.

Maggi seems to be just that perfect quick-snack between meals. But let me tell you it is a highly processed food that lacks nutritive value.  Maggi noodle is high in carbohydrates, sodium and other food additives, but low on essential elements such as fibre, vitamins and minerals. We can gauge the absence of nutrients in our diet if we surrender ourselves to maggi servings.

Another health concern is the reported leaching of dioxin and other hormone-like substances from the plastic container of the cup noodle. As hot water is added harmful substances could seep into the soup.

One of the major concerns with noodle is that it can produce oxidized fat and oil if it is not managed properly during the manufacturing process. After some time the wax can be seen floating in the water. The Codex Standards allow the use of the chemical propylene glycol, an anti-freeze ingredient in instant noodles. These chemical does not allow them to dry and retain moisture. Some of them are readily absorbed in the body and accumulates in the heart, liver and kidneys.  Thus, these chemicals weakens the immune system.

Maggi noodles contain high amounts of monosodium glutamate (MSG). It is a flavor  enhancer used in noodles. MSG can result in an allergic reaction. Individuals who are allergic to MSG can get burning sensations, chest and facial flushing or pain and headaches from it.

Some of the chemicals found in instant noodles are also capable of causing cancer. For example, dioxin and plasticisers leached from the containers in the presence of hot water. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO) ,at least 30 percent of all cancers could be prevented through simple measures such as adopting a healthy diet.  Instant noodles are definitely an unhealthy diet which consumers should avoid.
