Everything in this universe requires some representation or a convention with the help of which a particular thing is understood. However none of these conventions exist on universal level but if we slant a look towards study of science and mathematics, these fundamentals are understood all over the world. The rules and principles of mathematics are same throughout the world. This is something which gave a platform for all the great minds of the world to gather and work for a better future. Mathematics is not a subject or a field of research but it is a phenomenon which comprises of a universe of its own. This phenomenon ties in the geniuses of the world together thus eliminating the difference of all type.

If we move towards understanding the significance of the field of mathematics then we can say that none of what we see around ourselves would have been possible without mathematics. If it were not for mathematics we wouldn’t be enjoying the hundreds of channels on our TV or the Wi-Fi, it would not have been possible to send shuttles in the space or creating artificial intelligence in the machines or understanding the movement of the planets. 10. G.F Bernhard Riemann (1826 – 1866):

Riemann was German mathematician during the 19th century, this remarkable mathematician provided base for modern mathematics. His contributions include Riemann Geometry, Riemann Surface, Riemann zeta function, Riemann Integral, theory of higher dimension and the most important Riemann hypothesis.

9. Euclid of Alexandra (300 BC):

Euclid was a Greek mathematician who was given the name “father of geometry” due his extraordinary work in the field of geometry. During his lifetime he worked on number theory, geometry, irrational numbers, and solid geometry. He also presented five axioms which help laid many foundations however his most valuable work is his “elements”, a set of 13 books on the Geometry.

Archimedes was an ancient Greek mathematician. This mathematician did development in the field of calculus & integration. His theory of exhaustion helped in removing many barriers in the scientific revolution. He also did marvelous work on conoids, spheroids, spirals, parabolas, spheres, cylinder, measurement of a circle etc.

Descartes was a mathematician who played a significant role in scientific development during 17th century. He introduced some new principles and methods by merging algebra and geometry. His most splendid contribution was that he introduced co-ordinate system, also known as Cartesian co-ordinate.

Turing was among the greatest minds of 20th century, he was a Cryptanalyst and someone whom we can a true computer scientist, he worked for the British government as a code breaker during the period of world war 2, Alan discovered ways to crack the German codes, an act which played a great role in shortening the period of world war 2, hence saving millions of lives.

Often referred to as the “prince of mathematics”, Gauss was a child prodigy. As a child he was able to do the calculation of very large figures within seconds. Due to his amazing talent he was sent to most prestigious mathematical university of the world by the local duke. At the age of 22, he wrote Disquisitiones Arthimeticae, an extremely well written book. His other contributions include his work on number theory, introduction of Gaussian gravitational constant and other theorems of algebra. He kept most of his work hidden which was discovered and published after his death.

4. Al-Khwarizmi (780 – 850):

Muhammad Ibn Musa Al-Khwarizmi was a Persian mathematician, he worked at the house of wisdom, Baghdad. He is said to be original inventor of Algebra, his book was the first book ever to present solution on linear and quadratic equations, and his work provided foundation to the work done by other scientist in the west. His other contribution includes his work on Indian numerals and decimal numbers.

3. Wilhelm Leibniz (1646 – 1716):

Wilhelm Leibniz was a German mathematician during the 17th and 18th century. He was the inventor of infinitesimal calculus along with Newton. His second contribution is a milestone in the field of computer sciences; he worked on binary arithmetic which was based on bits. Without his work the inventions on modern computing and engineering would never have been possible.

2. Isaac Newton (1642-1727):

Isaac Newton is a name which does not need any introduction, the favor has done for the world of mathematics can never be forgotten, and this great thinker provided the world with the core foundations of modern sciences. His most important work was the development of modern calculus along with Wilhelm Leibniz. He gave a new direction to mathematician which is known as infinitesimal calculus. He also introduced the world to binomial theorem. In a nutshell we can conclude that without Newton’s work it would not have been possible to make discoveries in the space.
