Everybody loves those little ,square shaped, red-yellow-blue pieces of paper, that all of a sudden make you feel all responsible and disciplined(in reality, they don’t). You have sticky noted to remind you of your scheduled activities, you have notepad to pen down stuffs. No offense people, but it only burden you further. If you are seriously in a hurry to do something, you would do it anyway. Even if you do need it, don’t go for physical one. Almost all smart-phones have the feature for making notes and if not, then you always have laptops or PCs with you. Even saving a draft in the message box of your phone would do the job.

 9. Bills and Tickets

Train Tickets

The culture of using paper for all sorts of bills and tickets is quite common around the globe. Even being a big reason for waste of paper, it has not improved much with time. No matter even the railway government ask to use electronic media, mobile messages for tickets verification purpose, still a lot of people get it printed on paper. Though the waste has significantly reduced after the initiative, paper still continues to be used for printing bills, bus and air tickets.

Those beautiful, colorful, cards out there which you send to show your love and affection towards your near and dear ones on almost every occasion be it Holi, Diwali, Christmas, etc are actually a waste of paper. Ultimately, they become a piece of decor for your dust-bin only.  You can always choose electronic greeting cards or email to send those lovely quotes.

5. Wastage at Home

Calendars

Those wall papers, posters and of course calendar hanging out there on your walls of almost every room, adds to the wastes getting accumulated at home. They are replaced from time to time and the older one goes into trash. Besides, that thick and heavy telephone directory near your land-lines also adds to this list. You have internet facilities, they why not search for contacts there?

In the workplace, these papered presentations, reports, handouts and documents accounts for the most of wastes of paper. Since paper is bulky to store, in boxes or in file cabinets, using fewer sheets will not only save paper but it can put storage space to more productive use. Desktop fax, electronic references (CD-ROM databases), electronic data storage and electronic purchasing are all ways to use electronic media rather than going for paper.

  3. Books

Books are again a source of wastage of paper. In this age of laptops and smart-phones, you have access to the e-book version of any collection, then why not go for e-books! You can even find some without splurging on much. Think about the number of tress you save by opting for. Not just this, paper goes in decorating your book with book covers is another waste. Well I am not saying that book covers should be not used. But you can always reuse things and get it recycled.

A sheet of paper can be effectively use by printing on both sides. But who cares? People for some XYZ reason love to go for printing only on one side. You can reduce the wastage by exactly half, something worth considering.  Next time you go for printing, set your computer to print two-sided. You can even practice efficient copying techniques where two pages of a document can be copied into a little bigger sheet.
